GHK Rugby Club, in the West end of Glasgow, are seeking to appoint a highly ambitious, motivated and enthusiastic individual to drive forward rugby development within the Club and the surrounding West end community in Glasgow to achieve Scottish Rugby’s vision for ‘Growing the Game’.

You will have experience of both sports and or community development and coaching within a rugby environment, as well as relevant experience and it would be of assistance if you had a full, clean, driving licence.

Working for GHK, in partnership with Scottish Rugby, you will maintain and develop thriving junior section, including mini, midi and Under 18 age groups, as well as a focus on our university teams, linking our senior sections to these groups with an aim to ensuring we provide a welcoming, vibrant and sustainable environment for rugby development.

A minimum of Scottish Rugby Coaching Essentials Qualification (previously Level 1) or equivalent, experience of coaching rugby and excellent communication and organisational skills are essential for this post.

Key Accountabilities

  • Increase playing participation within GHK Rugby Club across all age groups for both male and female groups – ensuring our membership is diverse and representative of our communities.
  • Support the implementation of the club development plan.
  • Run a series of club events that provide young people with a positive experience of the sport and an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the rugby club with the aim of sustainingparticipation.
  • Support Scottish Rugby events.
  • Work with the local schools, colleges and universities to recruit, train and deploy volunteers into the program.
  • Work in partnership with a range of agencies to raise the profile of rugby in the local community, Building strong relationships and establishing joint outcomes
  • Deliver high quality coaching sessions to the club and its associated cluster schools and community groups.
  • Organise and facilitate opportunities for developing club coaches.
  • Assist with recruitment, retention and development of all club volunteers.
  • Support implementation of a rugby forum, bringing all key stakeholders of the game locally together.

Qualifications and Attainments

• Rugby Coaching Essentials Qualification (Previously UKCC Level 1 )

  • Aspiring Coach Qualification (UKCC Level 2)
  • Sports related qualification
  • Match Official Qualification
  • First Aid in Rugby Certificate(FAIR) or other First Aidqualification
  • Driving Licence
  • Access to a car

Experience & knowledge (in an employed or voluntary capacity)

  • Coaching rugby across a wide variety of age bands and groups
  • Experience and knowledge of working with volunteers
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues effecting rugby clubs and experience in developing sports clubs.

The successful candidate will be required to either join the Protection of Vulnerable Group (PVG) Scheme and/or undergo a PVG Scheme Record Update.
