GHK is looking to appoint a Head Coach to lead the club’s coaching team. We are an ambitious club that aims to build on our recent success and to play at the highest level of amateur rugby in Scotland whilst maintaining a friendly, welcoming and inclusive ethos.

The position will be part time with evening and weekend working hours. We are offering a contract to commence at preseason 2023/24. Remuneration will be based on experience and qualifications.

The successful candidate requires strong leadership and excellent communication skills, experience of coaching rugby at club level and qualified to UKCC Level 2 / Aspiring Coaching Programme with the ambition to undertake the SRU’s Advanced Coaching Programme if not already achieved.

Roles and Responsibilities.

  • Lead the coaching team responsible for Senior Rugby
  • Develop the skills of the players
  • Develop high performance teams by running challenging, active and effective coaching sessions.
  • Plan the programme of coaching sessions.
  • Set goals and motivate players to achieve these goals.
  • Liaise with partner clubs and schools to forge and strengthen links and partnerships
  • Undertake coach development with other club coaches
  • Co-ordinate with Team Manager and Director of Rugby
  • Set targets with S & C Coach for players and teams within the senior section
  • Evaluate all coaching sessions and games.
  • Utilise video footage for match / player analysis and feedback
  • Be present at all coaching sessions and games
  • Attend coaching / committee meetings as required
  • Provide feedback and encourage to players to progress.
  • Attract and recruit new players
  • Retain player base

GHK Rugby Club, based at Old Anniesland, is part of the centre of sporting excellence at OA with a strong and growing presence within the local community. You will require to be a positive role model contributing to the club’s development plans and be part of a senior team delivering identified targets.

GHK achieved our primary goal this season of consolidating our position in Tennent’s National League One following on from our promotions in recent seasons. The new coach will require drive and determination to continue building on recent success. We expect them to bring commitment and enthusiasm to the challenges associated with the role. The Club looks forward to recruiting a team player, able to continue the development of an ethos of high-quality rugby throughout the whole club.

There is a Development Officer within our structure who works closely with our junior rugby sections and leads our community-based schools’ programme. The club is keen to see the continued growth of this aspect to develop our own pathways to increase playing membership and enhance opportunities within our senior club.
