We’re pleased to be able to report that we are hosting a one day Coaching Essentials Course at Old Anniesland on Sunday 17th October. This is the course that has replaced the UKCC Level One course. As such it is the best introduction for those new to coaching or who do not currently have a qualification.  The SRU intends to make it a mandatory requirement from next year for all those involved in coaching at any level to have this qualification as a minimum standard so this is an ideal opportunity to get it done locally.

If anyone  who wishes to apply is not already registered on SCRUMS, they can follow the few simple steps here to do so. https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/sru-files/files/SCRUMS_Registration_Guide.pdf

Full information is as follows:

  • The course will last from 0930 am until 4 pm.
  • To follow SRU policy, the course must be booked via SCRUMS, therefore every participant must register on SCRUMS as a coach if they haven’t already done so. The course is live on SCRUMS and available to book.
  • The course must be paid for at the time of booking (£30) by each participant but GHK will reimburse this payment to all coaches who coach at the club or who are prepared to coach at GHK.
  • There is a minimum age of 15 so the course is open to students in S5 and S6 who may be participating in coaching schemes within their schools or with associated primary schools
  • The course is open so there may well be people from other clubs attending.
  • If a coach already has UKCC Level One, there is no requirement to do this course but nothing to stop them doing it as a refresher.
  • There is no formal assessment within the Coaching Essentials course. There is a practical element to ensure safe practice around tackle/contact situations.
  • From next season it will be mandatory for anyone involved in coaching rugby at any level in Scotland to have attended the Coaching Essentials course.
  • Completing RugbyRight online, again via SCRUMS, is still a requirement for all coaches.
  • We are planning on providing a light lunch at no cost to participants.
  • Aspiring Coaches programme (the next level for those who already have UKCC Level One or Coaching Essentials) is available as a two day course at West of Scotland Rugby Club’s ground, Burnbrae, Milngavie) on 27-28th November and at other venues in the coming months for anyone interested in taking their coaching qualifications to the next stage. Course fee of £75 would be reimbursed by the club. Booking is open on SCRUMS.
