Last Friday saw GHK host its first ever Primary Schools Festival at Old Anniesland. The event marked the culmination of a 6 week programme of delivery to primary 5 and 6 classes in three of our local schools: Corpus Christi , Knightswood and St Ninian’s with pupils from all three schools attending the day.
Altogether we had:
119 pupils form Corpus Christi, Knightswood and St Ninian’s Primary Schools
3 Active Schools Coordinators
3 Modern Apprentices
8 S6 Sports Leaders from Knightswood Secondary
6 S2 Rugby Ambassadors from St Thomas Aquinas
3 Community Sports Coaches from GHK
3 U-18 Sports Coaches from GHK
3 Volunteer Junior Rugby Coaches from GHK
And, of course, we had teachers, other staff and parent helpers from each of the schools. GHK is also grateful to The High School of Glasgow for use of the pitches during the school day and to staff of the school for their assistance in advance and for visiting on the day.
The fact that the sun shone certainly helped but it was the efforts of all the above that was key. We have been hugely encouraged at the club by the level of support from our local schools and, working with them and other local partners, we aim to continue to strengthen our relationships and build on the what we’ve achieved to give more children and young people opportunities to take part in sport with all the benefits that we know this brings.
